QWAK,I have been TOTALY debt free 4 times so far in my adult life--- I hate having DEBT hanging over me like some sort of haunting GHOST!

I pride my self on having acheved this goal mutapul times and it helps me sleep a lot better at night!:sleep:

I also hate paying BANKERS intrist on MONEY that DON'T exist!:banghead:

I was just thinking :thinkey:-- the LAST time I payed a BANK intrist was on one of my CREDIT CARDS at 4% when I bought SILVER at $6.96 when the BANK offered me a DEAL ,4% for 1 year!:yippee::applause_

So for ME it is well over 2 years since I have payed direct intrist to a BANK and I made out like a BANDIT!:D:hahaha::haha:

For me it is sort of an ECONOMIC ZEN dicaplin sort of thing or may be ECONOMIC YOGA?:questionm:dontknow:

When every one was going to GET rich DAY TRAIDING with E-TRAID I could see the HOOK but they and other brokerages had some great deals. IF you would open an account with 2K they would ADD $200.00 and others as much as $300.00 and the MM account payed 5.5% INTRIST.:s9:

I just opened accounts kept them open for over 6 mo. and colected the INTRIST and the $$$ they put in. There was also FREE CHECKING so AFTER they put in the $$$ I would wright a check for 2K and OPEN another brokerage account.:hahaha:

NEVER used but one account when I actualy did buy or sell a stock. I figure I made 3K or 4K that way!:wink:

I found out in the ARMY I could FIGHT BACK but I had to do IT in little ways --- I'm STILL FIGHTING and when I realy think about IT I am NOW fighting the ones I should have been fighting and NEVER any others. THEY (the BANKERS) made ME fight for THEM and there corrupted SYSTEM!

I was debt free when I paid off my student loans, but before I got married. My wife has loans (1.875% interest) and we have a mortgage now (no other debt than those two)- but we're on track to be debt free by age 40.

sadly, I don't think I've been debt free in over 30 years. But I'm working on it.

Outside of my mortgage, I have never paid interest to a bank and have still never owned a credit card.

QWAK,silverblood, Don't mean to hurt your feelings any but because I have been out and back in several times when I boil it all down it mostly hppened because I got confused about " my WANTS" and "my NEEDS" :wink:

When I had to get back in to my "PURE SURVIVAL" mode I do sort of a DUCK version of RAMBO --- I scrounge every thing I can posably think of that may be of help.

Wile I was rehabing after geting crunched I scrounged ALLIES for stuff people were throwing out. I lived up by the lake front a fiew blocks from Lake shore drive in Chicago,lots of RICH people with WAY too much MONEY so much they ACTUALY throw away GOLD and SILVER even FRNs!

I found an Italiang Gold (tricolor) ladies braclet in a box of old purces some one pitched out in the alley! That would have been 87 so what ever the GOLD price was back then I sold it to a guy who loved GOLD and seeing as I had to EAT and PAY the RENT and payment on the cabin and land I sold it to him for $800.00!:s9: NO BS! I also found 30 Mexican SILVER coins about the size of a quorter in another purse in a little draw string pouch. I kept several of the leather purses they are great for my black powder rifel and pistol rigs.:thinkey:

I scrounged 50 year old 22' long 4x6 timbers for FREE that were going to be put in a dumpster! The things were like GOLD to me! They are the TIMBERS of my GREEN HOUSE BATH addition, it is more thay TWICE as big as the original cabin!!:s9:

A diferent time I found boxes of BOOKS and when I looked threw some, in one box I found FRNs as BOOK MARKS $20.00 and $50.00. I was realy hungry had been living on peanut butter and gram crackers and needed some REAL FOOD and I found $120.00,and some good books too! :wink:

This may sound silly BUT the more I found I could DO WITH OUT the more I "found" so I diden't have to --- well not totaly.:rofl: But it shure HELPED!:wink:

Only PEOPLE WAIST and they do it because they TAKE TOO MUCH and don't know what to DO with what is LEFT OVER! So they throw it away and some times they are in such a hurry to throw away stuff they also THROW AWAY all SENCE of VALUE!:stupid::stupido2:

I was a little DUCK RAMBO runing around and geting what ever I knew I could put a PURPOSE TO!:laugh:

There are an infinate number of ways to get to the CENTER of a CIRCLE --- enough for EACH to have its OWN!:grin:

The DUCK NEST will NEVER be finished IT is in a constent state of BECOMING and it is the DOING IT not the GETING it DONE that IS MY ADVENTURE!

Just KEEP going:congrats: IF that is what you realy WANT and you limit your self to ONLY what you actualy NEED ,you can usualy HAVE what you WANT in life --- but AINT nothing FREE and some things you have to give up to get what you WANT can be more EXPENCIVE than one imagins -- not every thing is measured in FRNs and any more people are starting to find THAT out --- in SPADES!:yes:

You don't have to worry about hurting my feelings at all, Duck. You are absolutely right; I thought my WANTS were NEEDS, or at least I convinced myself that they were. I figured it all out only a few months ago, and I'm just sorry it took so long. I realized suddenly that if anything catastrophic happened to me (loss of job, health, major personal financial crisis), I'd be seriously screwed.

But I am now focused on the things that are going to help me live the rest of my life as independently and securely as I can manage without a debt noose draped around my neck. I've already paid down $14K worth of my debt since January, so I know I'm making progress.

I only go in debt to buy a new car/truck about every 10-15 years. OTT, I've been debt free for about 4 years, since I paid off my last truck. Soon I'll probably have to take out a bank loan every time I fill 'er up!

Never totally debt free since adult expenses have come my way (Never helped by family, never inherited a dime). Have kept debt down to just the mortgage several times, then get the urge to buy a car and have to pay it off at an accelerated rate.

I'm a sucker for helping out my friends small businesses. For example, I needed a new mattress. I should have gone to Sam's Club, bought a new mattress for $750 and done some work on my existing bed to make it structurally sound. I ended up going to a friends business that I know is under the gun from the economy and spending $2500 on a new bed, the best mattress they carry, and a new nightstand.

rrrrrrr.....

One good thing I did was get my employer to pay 6 years of college for me. They paid every penny!

We paid off our house in 1997 and the only debt we've had since then are car payments and a small amount on a credit card that we pay off each month in full. We always pay off the car loans ahead of time so the amount of interest we pay is very minimal and right now they are also paid for. So right now we have not paid interest in a couple of years.

AND LET ME TELL YA SOMETHING...IT FEELS REAL GOOOOD BABY, OH YEAH!!!!

I'm really glad we've gotten ourselves out of all forms of debt, not that we ever were in real deep except for the mortgage. With everything going on in the financial sector, I think we've insulated ourselves as good as we can by keeping most of our money in PM's and only keeping a minimal amount of FRN's in our credit union. I've even withdrawn most of them from the CU.

Just don't like that chilly wind that's blowing out there.

Only interest I use is in my margin account. I do this to own appreciating assets paid for with depreciating FRNs.

While working on my income taxes I discovered my stock broker had charged me $13 interest last year on a margin account.

This is the only interest I've paid in years, maybe 8 or 10 years.

I've been debt free for years and intend to stay that way. Probably been 15 years since I had a car loan.

I was debt free as a child and as a teenager. Funnily enough, those were the best years of my life... interesting correlation...

The rich view debt rather differently, eg. as good debt and bad debt and using debt to build wealth, they will often take on as much debt as possible to build future wealth.
That takes a lot of discipline, planning and cunning, and most people don't have it.

I tend to view DEBT diferently because I don't just concider FRN or MONEY debt but also EFFORTS and favors done for my benifit are also a DEBT that should be repayed IF one is an HONORABLE person.

MONEY is about PEOPLE, it represents a persons WORK and EFFORT, it is NOT GOLD or SILVER realy or paper or plastic CURRENCY --- MONEY is about PEOPLE and the VALUE of PEOPLE!:thinkey::yes:

Because WE colectively have LOST that LINK to REALITY we are ALL going to get a GLIMPS of ECONOMIC HELL --- real DAMN SOON!:cryin2::Sorry::bawling:

GOLD and SILVER are HONIST MONEY because people WORK to mine,smelt and fabricate the stuff.

FIAT is an ILUSION and a DEBASING of the VALUE of PEOPLE -- ultimitly!

That is just how I percieve it, so being TOTALY DEBT FREE is a lot more than paying for the house and car or paying off a credit card.

That's just my perspective and it comes out of KARMA and the exchange of ENERGY creating BALANCE --- feels GOOD any way.:wink::s1:

I'm exploring the possibility of loaning my pm to the Costa Rican .gov for a month long stint, although the going time rate adjustment is 6 months.

Nothing is beyond their reach.:wink:
